Responsible environmental management with a focus on sustainability is one of Minera Panama’s key commitments. This means promoting conservation and protecting the environment in areas where we operate. Our environmental management system is aimed at administrating responsibly the natural resources of the area by implementing mitigation activities that focus on minimizing environmental impacts, protecting the environment and health of the community.

Biodiversity

The protection of Cobre Panama's surrounding biodiversity is one of the most important elements of Minera Panama’s environmental management program.  Panama has a wealth of biodiversity, which Minera Panama is committed to preserving for generations to come.  Our goal is to prevent the net loss of biodiversity due to the project's activities. The implementation of a complete and comprehensive biodiversity program will ensure that goal.  Several new species have been recorded in the project’s area of influence. Other species that have been registered in Panama were collected for the first time thanks to the depth of the biological base line study included in our environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) for the project.  The flora biodiversity management program will create incentives for applied investigation using these species and rescue certain flora to ensure species conservation.
